LEDGEWOOD
VINEYARDS
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This is a ripe, full-bodied wine that carries intense berry and cherry fruit flavors with touches of plum and spice. Its soft tannins and firm acidity make it a pleasure to drink now, though hints of vanilla and pepper suggest that it will reward aging over the next several years.
APPELLATION:
Suisun Valley (Solano County)
Suisun Valley is just beginning to achieve the reputation it deserves, given its favorable climate and soils and its superior combination of quality and value.
VINEYARDS:
This is a small hillside vineyard near the Napa County line. Warm daytime temperatures moderated by cool marine air in the evenings contribute to complex grape flavors with good acidity. The clone is from the Summit Lake vineyards on Howell Mountain.
VINTAGE:
This was the seventh commercial harvest for this vineyard. The harvest timing was typical for this vineyard, but the level of ripeness was higher than in previous years. The vineyard was picked in two lots, 10 days apart, to ensure consistent ripeness and balance. Yields were moderate, under 4 tons per acre.
COMPOSITION:
Zinfandel 99%, Syrah 1%
