2007 SYRAH
WIRTH RANCH
WINEMAKER'S
NOTES:
Aromas of violets and spice lead to rich blackberry
and dark cherry flavors with hints of chocolate and
pepper. This is a supple and aromatic wine balancing
soft tannins, ripe fruit, and a lingering finish.
APPELLATION:
Green
Valley (Solano County) is tucked into a corner of Solano County, next to the larger Suisun Valley; together they form the southeastern corner of California's North Coast. Green Valley is just beginning to develop its own character.
VINEYARD:
A small block of Syrah vines, at the base of a hill and above a seasonal drainage ditch, struggles more than neighboring blocks, but the vines consistently produce dark, concentrated fruit.
VINTAGE:
This block is usually picked in October (about a week-10 days before the neighboring blocks), and 2007 was about average. The yields were lower than usual, however.
COMPOSITION:
Syrah 92%, Zinfandel 4%, Petite Sirah 3%, Carignane 1%
