Aromas of violets and black currants lead to rich blackberry
and dark cherry flavors with a touch of spice and herbs, and the barest hint of oak. This deeply colored wine is bold and balanced, intense yet fresh, with soft tannins and a silky texture.
Valley (Solano County) is tucked into a corner of Solano County, next to the larger Suisun Valley; together they form the southeastern corner of California's North Coast. Green Valley is just beginning to develop its own character.
A small block of Syrah vines, at the base of a hill and above a seasonal drainage ditch, struggles more than neighboring blocks, but the vines consistently produce dark, concentrated fruit.
This block is usually picked in October, about a week to 10 days before the neighboring blocks, but 2008 was earlier than usual. The yields were moderate, but average for this block.
