TWILIGHT RIDGE SYRAH
SUISUN
VALLEY
SOLD
OUT!
This
wine was a joint venture between winery (Sunset Cellars)
and vineyard (Ledgewood Vineyards), which grew both
the Syrah and Zinfandel used in this wine. The product
thus reflects close collaboration all the way from field
to bottle.
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
Aromas of violets and spice lead to rich blackberry and
dark cherry fruit with hints of chocolate and pepper. This
is a supple and aromatic wine balancing soft tannins, ripe
fruit, and moderate alcohol.
APPELLATION:
Suisun
Valley (Solano County) is not a well-known appellation --
yet -- but the favorable climate and soils have generated
a great deal of vineyard development in recent years.
VINEYARDS:
The Syrah is from a young vineyard that straddles an old
streambed. Very rocky on one side, the site rises slightly
into marginally deeper soil above the old watercourse. Cool
marine air in the evenings moderates the warm daytime temperatures,
allowing long hang times for the grapes and surprising complexity
for such young vines.
VINTAGE:
The Syrah harvest
was later than in previous years, in mid-October. The longer
hang time and moderate yields contributed to the wine's
complexity and structure.
COMPOSITION:
Syrah 82%, Zinfandel 17.3%, Peite Sirah 0.5%, Pinot Gris
