RED
WINE
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This combination of Potter Valley Zinfandel and Redwood
Valley Petite Sirah displays bright cherry and strawberry
aromas which lead to jammy blackberry and cranberry flavors
with hints of spice and dark stone fruit. The Zinfandel
adds bright berry fruit and a crisp mouthfeel, while the
Petite Sirah contributes to the wine's depth and richness.
The wine was made entirely from organically grown grapes.
APPELLATION:
Mendocino County
VINEYARD:
McFadden Farm in Potter Valley and Redwood Valley Vineyards
in neighboring Redwood Valley both are certified organic
grape growers. Both grow a number of grape varieties, and
their red wine grapes reflect the aromatic qualities and
cherry-berry flavors characteristic of much Mendocino fruit.
VINTAGE:
These are cool growing environments compared to some appellations,
and the red wine grapes typically hang until October. The
2004 vintage experienced some cool weather toward the end
of the growing season, and as a result, the Zinfandel was
harvested on October 15, and the Petite Sirah not until
October 30.
COMPOSITION:
The wine is half Zinfandel and half Petite Sirah, both from
certified organic growers.
