Cabernet Sauvignon vines at Wirth Ranch

2010 AFTERGLOW

SOLANO COUNTY GREEN VALLEY

WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This deeply colored wine offers a complex mix of dark fruit flavors with hints of spice and cocoa. Blending with Syrah, from a vineyard block just a few feet away, enhanced the Cabernet fruit and tannins with bold flavors and a silky texture.

APPELLATION:
Solano County Green Valley

VINEYARD:
One corner of a small block of Cabernet vines, just above a seasonal stream, struggles in shallow soil more than the rest of the block. It has lower yields of smaller clusters but more concentrated fruit, and moderate tannins.

VINTAGE:
This is a fairly late-ripening area and 2010, a cool growing year, was no exception. The long hang time benefited the grapes' flavors and complexity. The yield was slightly over 3 tons per acre.

VINIFICATION: Fermented in bins over twelve days. The entire lot went through malolactic fermentation.

COMPOSITION:
Cabernet Sauvignon 80%, Syrah 19%, Petite Sirah 1%
